Vigan in Full Festive Bloom: A Fiesta to Remember

 

The Bigueños celebrate the Fiesta of the Conversion of St. Paul with deep faith, pride in heritage, and joyful community spirit. The celebration begins with religious activities such as novena masses, a solemn fiesta Mass, and a grand procession honoring St. Paul, the city’s patron saint. Devotees participate prayerfully, showing gratitude and devotion passed down through generations.

Upon walking through the entire city, we could gaze upon the joyous moments where the town feast is partaking. The bustling streets are filled with tourists and locals who gathered to celebrate the fiesta with unity, joy and pride. This event paved the way for the Bigueños to show case their rich culture and beautiful traditions, while also boosting tourism for the city. In the image above, we could see how they celebrated with street dancing, like longganisa festival wherein they danced gracefully in the cobblestone streets of Vigan. Looking at the street performances, traditional music, and visitors dressed in their best fiesta outfits. Local delicacies like empanada, bagnet, and longganisa are everywhere, making the celebration a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.

As the journey continues, the city slowly transforms into a busy place, people are preparing for the night event. The tourist spots remained packed and everyone is happily enjoying the fiesta. At night, lights illuminate the historic houses, and the joyful energy of the crowd makes the fiesta unforgettable.

Growing Through Challenges: My Third Quarter Journey

During the third quarter, I gained new learnings and discoveries that helped me grow academically and personally. I learned to understand lessons more deeply through activities, discussions, and hands-on tasks, which improved my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I also discovered the importance of responsibility, discipline, and active participation in class, as these helped me perform better and become more confident in my abilities as a learner.

However, this quarter was not always easy. I struggled with managing my time, especially when several activities and deadlines piled up. There were moments when lessons felt difficult to understand, which made me feel stressed and overwhelmed. Balancing schoolwork with personal responsibilities was challenging, and there were times when I doubted my abilities. These took a huge toll on my mental wellbeing, resulting to my laziness.

To overcome these challenges, I learned to be more patient with myself and take things one step at a time. I started organizing my tasks and reminding myself of deadlines so I would not cram at the last minute. When I did not understand a lesson, I asked questions, reviewed my notes, and sought help from classmates and teachers. These small efforts helped me stay on track and slowly regain my confidence.

Moving on, I will apply the lessons I learned from this quarter by managing my time more wisely and staying consistent in my studies. I will continue to improve my skills, actively participate in class, and face future challenges with confidence and determination. With a positive mindset and continuous effort, I aim to achieve better outcomes in the next quarter.

When people think of the Philippines, one of the first names that comes to mind is José Rizal. He is considered the face of the nation because he stood for the Filipino people during a time when they had very little voice. Rizal did not come from power or wealth, but he used his intelligence, compassion, and love for his country to speak out against injustice.

Rizal’s greatest contribution to Philippine society was awakening the Filipino sense of nationalism. Through his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, he showed the harsh realities of life under Spanish rule. Because of this, many began to realize that what they were experiencing was wrong and that change was possible.

What makes Rizal truly admirable is that he believed change should come through education and peaceful reform. He valued learning and moral character, believing that an educated nation could never remain oppressed forever. The theme “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development” reminded me that our country’s progress should not come at the cost of losing our roots. Instead, development should grow alongside culture, respect, and understanding.
